Students highlight Best Buddies and Project 351 service work at School Committee meeting

Students and advisors used the committee’s Mustang Moment segment to describe two student‑led programs. John Skerry, co‑faculty advisor for Medford High School’s Best Buddies, said the chapter celebrated nearly one year of activity with 1:1 pairings and twice‑monthly meetings that create inclusive friendships for students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. Student officers described recent activities — cookie baking, hallway trick‑or‑treating and holiday cards — and invited the committee to a one‑year anniversary event in March.
Principal Tucci introduced eighth‑grade ambassadors Ali Matarazzo and Jovi Laffer from Andrews Middle School, who described attending Project 351’s launch day in Boston and volunteering with organizations including Cradles to Crayons. Ali said the ambassadors helped sort donated clothes and planned a two‑week spring clothing drive in Medford to support Cradles to Crayons.
Committee members applauded both presentations and encouraged continued student leadership and community service.
