Oakdale council honors Super Club girls soccer teams for regional success

The Oakdale City Council recognized the Super Club 2014 and 2017 girls soccer teams for recent regional tournament success and presented certificates to players.
Coach Melissa Popovich introduced herself as the head coach of the 2014 girls and vice president of Oakdale's Opera Club, described forming the team over two years and listed recent finishes including second place at the CC Memorial Martinez tournament and the Phantom Cup. "They are the hardworking ones... they———I'm so proud," Popovich said.
Coach Jose Meza, who identified himself as a coach of the 2017 girls, thanked assistant coaches and parents and emphasized player development. Meza cited recent team statistics: "In the last 18 games, we've lost 0 games. We've scored 99 goals. We received 9 goals," and celebrated the players' accomplishments. Council members congratulated the teams and arranged a group photo with the council.
Players called forward to receive certificates included team captains Kylie Thorburn and Camila Steele and goalkeepers Katie Pimley and Gabriella Mink; other player names were read during the presentation. Mayor Cher Berrios was noted as absent but acknowledged as supportive of local soccer. The council dismissed the teams after the recognition so they could leave before the end of the meeting.
