Senate committee accepts staff recommendation finding multiple bills germane

A Senate committee on a short, procedural meeting accepted staff recommendations to find several Senate bills germane to the committee’s jurisdiction, moving those measures forward for consideration.

Analyst Lauren distributed a spreadsheet and summarized staff findings, saying, “You’ll see at the top, there are 3 bills that were introduced previously that, there was a corresponding message sent down yesterday. And then below that are the bills that were introduced yesterday... 7 with stacked recommendations as germane, and the remainder have recommendations as not germane.” The spreadsheet delineated which measures staff recommended as germane and which they did not.

Senator Duhigg moved the committee accept the staff recommendation, stating, “I move we accept the staff's recommendation, and find that bills ... are germane.” The committee chair asked whether there was any opposition to the motion; when none was raised, the chair stated the staff recommendations were accepted and indicated the committee would reconvene as needed.

The chair noted meeting logistics for follow-up business, explaining the committee will meet when messages arrive and that emergency bills requiring messages would trigger additional meetings. She said she would notify members about the time for any subsequent meeting. The committee then adjourned.
