Summary
After a staff presentation, the Oakdale City Council voted 4-0 to adopt the 2025 California Building Standards Code; council also approved the consent agenda 4-0. Staff said the 2025 updates make limited local changes, including moving wildland-urban interface provisions to a standalone part and modest EV charger revisions.
Oakdale——————City Council on the evening of the meeting unanimously adopted the 2025 California Building Standards Code following a staff presentation and cleared routine business on the consent agenda.
The council held a public hearing on the 2025 code after a presentation from Mike Brinkman of CSG Consultants, the city's contract building official. Brinkman told the council that the state updates building codes every three years and that the California Building Standards Commission——————adoption of the 2025 codes mainly refines existing requirements. "The objective is to produce a practical building code that ensures public safety while implementing the most efficient technology available to conserve the state's natural resources and energy use," Brinkman said. He noted a few changes of local interest: the wildland-urban interface provisions have been moved into a standalone Part 7, energy and green-code performance standards for windows and HVAC were tightened, and EV charger requirements were modestly updated for single-family and multifamily buildings.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. After council discussion the motion to adopt the code passed on a 4-0 roll call with Council members Kettering, Murdoch, Potassie and Mayor Pro Tem Gilbert voting yes; Mayor Cher Berrios was absent.
