Vermillion County authorizes no-cost energy assessment for courthouse, jail and annex

Vermillion County commissioners voted to authorize a no-cost energy-efficiency assessment from Verigee that will review lighting, HVAC and potential solar or battery projects for county facilities.
Rick Anderson of Verigee told the board the firm performs guaranteed-savings projects under Indiana statute IC 36-1-12.5 and that the Inflation Reduction Act can provide significant federal incentives for projects such as solar and geothermal (Anderson estimated a 30–40% return in some cases). Anderson asked for permission to collect utility-account information and to walk county facilities; he said the assessment typically produces a report in six weeks to two months and does not charge the county.
Commissioners approved the assessment for the county courthouse, the county annex and the county jail by voice vote and instructed staff to provide necessary account information to Verigee. The motion passed with no recorded opposition. The county will review the assessment and may pursue individual projects that include guaranteed savings or federal tax-credit incentives.
