Council appoints 17‑member steering committee for 2026 Comprehensive Plan

City staff told the council Feb. 4 that the 2026 Comprehensive Plan will be one of the city’s largest planning processes and that a 17‑member steering committee will guide updates for housing, downtown, recreation, water, emergency services and other elements. The committee composition includes representatives from Alamosa County, Adams State University (ASU), Trinidad State College (TSC), the school district, youth, economic development, parks and rec, Main Street, housing, early childhood care, each ward and the faith community.
Staff said the city received 19 applications for committee seats, of which 18 were eligible after interviews. After council ballots and discussion, the council appointed Keith Cherney (Ward 1), Patrick McDermott (Ward 2), Charles Griego (Ward 3), Jamie Dominguez (Ward 4), Kaylee Romero (housing field), Ramona Silva (early childhood), Jeron Parkins (faith community) and K. O. Mortensen (economic development/major employer/chamber/tourism representative). Council moved to approve the appointments and voted unanimously.
Staff told the council the process will include additional plan elements and community input sessions; councilors asked about representation, youth appointment slots and next steps in the planning timeline. Staff said no youth representative applications were received and the city will continue outreach.
