Board approves contracts, purchase orders, hires and grants tied to new school

The Buchanan County Public Schools Board approved several administrative requests and personnel items related to the new school and district operations.
Administrators requested approval of five procurement items: Change Order #13 to the build contract (a credit reported as just under $374,000), a sound system purchase for indoor and outdoor athletic facilities (just under $366,000), a Raymond Gold Global hazmat survey and a smaller Raymond Global hazmat survey for abatement specifications (about $7,400 and $2,200, respectively), and appliances from J & R Appliance (about $15,000). The board moved and approved the five items by roll call.
The board also approved an updated nutrition program to meet state and federal guidelines (motion passed with one no), substitutes and coaching approvals across multiple high schools, maternity leave for Destiny Belcher, and personnel recommendations including nursing-instructor assignments and supplements. A $2,800 middle-school math-acceleration grant to support teacher endorsements and materials was approved as well.
Votes were recorded where required; personnel committee actions will be reviewed for superintendent contract updates over the next 30 days. Administration said procurement for remaining items (e.g., bleacher delivery, kitchen hood installation) is ongoing and that the new school remains on schedule for an August opening.
