Newberry County Council voted unanimously on Feb. 4 to award the inmate food services contract for the Newberry County Detention Center after county staff recommended selecting Victus Food Services as the low bidder.
Captain Daniel Floyd presented the procurement outcome, saying the county issued an RFP in November and received two responses: Trinity and Victus. "Victus has been our selection and came in with the lowest price as well," Floyd said, noting that the county has historically run its own kitchen but has struggled with purchasing power and changing prices.
Floyd said contracting meals to a vendor would shift some liability from the county to the food-service provider and that the selected vendor would prepare meals on-site for each meal. Following the presentation, a council member moved to approve the award; council approved the motion unanimously.
Next steps: staff will finalize contract documents with the selected vendor and implement the vendor-run food service with on-site meal preparation per the procurement recommendation.
