Commissioner Garcia announces waste-voucher pilot, food-truck series and working group on abandoned/deceased-owner properties

Garcia outlined a pilot waste-management "voucher" program created with the county sustainability manager that will let code-enforcement and environmental-health staff hand residents a voucher to use at the transfer station when they lack means to haul debris themselves. "They're free, so residents can have a window of time to get down to the transfer station," Garcia said, adding that the program will be tested as a pilot and usage data will be tracked.
She described a working group formed after the county commission passed an item addressing deceased private-property owners; the group includes the district attorney's office, the treasurer, assessor, public administrator, environmental health and code enforcement, and is focusing on four Sun Valley properties that require complex legal and administrative steps.
Garcia also said she allocated discretionary funds to sponsor a local food-truck series intended to boost the Sun Valley corridor. The first scheduled dates are Thursdays beginning June 11, with additional dates currently proposed for June 18, June 25 and possibly July 2; the first event is planned to include a youth dance competition and prioritize local food vendors.
Other topics Garcia addressed included abandoned-vehicle reporting (use 311) and planned community cleanups (speakers mentioned late-April cleanup events and tire/TV collection), and an economic-study planning effort for Sun Valley Boulevard funded through discretionary funds. Residents asked follow-up questions about whether county actions will lead to property sales or other dispositions; Garcia said outcomes will depend on individual cases and that she will keep residents informed.
No formal votes or budget adoptions were taken at the CAB meeting on these items.
