Summary
City officials described a multi‑agency response after a force‑main failure on Robin Lane reportedly spilled raw sewage for about 37.5 hours; the city and county activated unified incident command, arranged tanks and well testing, and ordered 100 filtration/sanitization systems for affected private wells.
A major sewer line failure on Robin Lane prompted a city response that has focused on testing, temporary potable water, and near‑term filtration installations for affected well users, Clear Lake city staff said at the council’s regular meeting.
City Manager Flora told the council the 16‑inch force main could not be isolated for roughly 37.5 hours, allowing a large volume of raw sewage to enter an area served by private wells. The city and the Lake County Office of Emergency Services under the sheriff assumed unified incident command and have been posting daily information and coordinating testing and sanitation measures.
Flora said the city has ordered 100 filtration and sanitization systems that will be installed for properties that request them, and that a number of homes already have received temporary tanks. "We're expecting those to be on the ground soon, and we're gonna have a number of contractors out there installing those," Flora said.
Flora and department staff described ongoing well‑testing and sanitization guidance on the city website. Residents asked about how many filters had been requested; Flora said about 26 requests were submitted before the meeting and confirmed 100 units were ordered for distribution.
Council members and neighbors praised city staff for hands‑on work during the incident. One council member noted that added personnel enabled more proactive policing and incident response; Flora said testing partners and water‑district staff provided critical additional testing teams during the weekend.
The city directed residents seeking help to the online request form on the city’s website for tanks, filtration systems, potable water delivery and well testing. Flora said the time for plume dissipation in the aquifer is unknown and that testing will continue until water meets public‑drinking standards.
