Board accepts unmodified 2024–25 audit; auditors report no material weaknesses

Michael Ash, partner at Christie White auditors, presented the Los Altos School District’s 2024–25 independent audit at the board meeting on Jan. 26 and reported an unmodified opinion.
"In our independent auditor's opinion, these financial statements are fairly stated in all material respects," Ash said during his presentation. He described the audit process, internal control review and federal single-audit procedures. Ash noted the federal supplement guidance arrived late this year and delayed parts of the single-audit process.
District staff said the single-audit testing typically focuses on major federal programs—special education is often selected for testing—and reminded trustees that the federal single-audit threshold that applied this year was $750,000 in federal expenditures; staff said the threshold will increase to $1,000,000 next year.
After questions from trustees and brief discussion, Trustee Vladimir moved and Trustee Stella seconded a motion to approve the 2024–25 audited financial report. The board approved the report unanimously.
The board also received a state budget preview that staff said will be refined at the May revise; staff flagged potential COLA changes, one-time block grants and the district’s limited exposure to Prop 98 because it is community-funded. Staff said next reporting steps include a second interim financial report on March 16 and adoption of the 2026–27 budget on June 8.
