Committee forwards aquatic center pump replacement to finance with optional VFD pricing

The Parks & Recreation Committee voted on Feb. 23, 2026, to forward a vendor quotation for replacement of pumps and motors at the aquatic center to the village finance committee and board. Staff explained the current pumps are original to the facility and the manufacturer discontinued the exact models in 2023, leaving limited factory spare parts and raising the risk of an in-season failure.
Staff recommended replacing the pump assemblies, pouring four new concrete motor mounting pads, replacing valves and piping modifications, and obtaining state-approved plans before work proceeds. The quote dated Dec. 1 includes the base replacement scope; staff said an optional package of variable frequency drives (VFDs) was included at approximately $40,270 (drive cost only) but that VFD installation and electrical work would add to costs.
Committee members discussed energy savings and payback periods for VFDs and noted that the pumps run only seasonally. Staff recommended proceeding with the pump replacements as the critical item and allowing finance to weigh the optional VFD package.
"If we get one pump that goes down, we’ll have to shut down for the summer until we can get a new pump," an unidentified committee member said, urging timely action. The committee passed a motion to send the quotation to finance and the board with the optional VFD pricing included for their consideration.
Staff indicated CIP funds are available to help cover part of the cost and that an updated vendor estimate will be requested before contracting.
