The San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission unanimously approved its Jan. 21, 2026 draft minutes and, by the same 6–0 vote, recommended denial of two consent‑calendar landmark nominations.
During the meeting President Matsuda called the roll and confirmed a quorum. After a brief opportunity for the public to request removal of consent items, staff placed two cases on the consent calendar: Case No. 2025-010416DES for Saint Paul’s Church at 1660 Church Street and Case No. 2025-010441S for the Most Holy Redeemer Church complex at Diamond Street. Staff recommended denial of both nominations.
A motion to recommend denial was made and seconded. Commissioners Cox, Chen Strang, Barone, Vergara, Foley and President Matsuda all voted in favor; the motion passed unanimously 6–0. No public commenters requested that those items be removed from the consent calendar.
The commission took the actions on the consent calendar without extended discussion. The recommended-denial outcomes will be transmitted in the commission’s action letter and become part of the administrative record for each nomination.
