RSU 40 policy committee pauses revisions to community-use rules after lengthy debate on fees, cannabis and religious groups

Ben, serving as the meeting chair for the policy committee, opened the session and led members through a page-by-page review of a redraft of policy KF, the district’s proposed community use policy. The committee spent most of the meeting debating wording clarifications, fee authority, prohibited substances and whether religious groups may be excluded from using school facilities.

Members agreed the draft combined standard model language from school‑board resources with local edits and that the document needs more work before a vote. ‘‘This is a community decision policy,’’ one committee member said when introducing the draft, noting the changes drew on Maine School Boards Association template language and local adjustments. After lengthy discussion, the committee voted to table KF to the next policy meeting so staff can clean up language and get legal guidance.
