The Bellevue School District board approved a consent-agenda item to place purchase orders for an annual student-laptop refresh after staff warned of potential supply-chain delays and a roughly 9% price increase.
Heather Sanchez, the district’s chief operating officer, told the board the purchase uses existing tech-levy dollars and will carry no general-fund impact. She said the district typically brings the refresh request later in spring but moved the item earlier because a technology vendor (Lenovo) alerted the district that waiting could risk not receiving devices by the start of the school year.
Sanchez said the board was being asked to approve placing purchase orders now; payment would be processed upon receipt of the devices. She also confirmed staff will not mark current devices as surplus until replacement devices are actually received.
Board discussion focused on whether the 9% increase could be mitigated by ordering fewer units and whether holding older devices longer is feasible. Directors accepted staff’s explanation and approved the consent agenda by voice vote.
What’s next: Staff will proceed with placing purchase orders under the tech-levy authority and will report back on receipt timing and any additional cost impacts.
