Pirtle, the incumbent, emphasized legislative productivity and law-enforcement measures, saying he helped pass bills that affect retirement for law enforcement and strengthen penalties for assaults on officers. “I got house bill 50 across the line... That’s a bill that’s gonna allow law enforcement to retire at 30 years,” Pirtle said, and he listed additional bills he sponsored or cosponsored.
Woodall, a local attorney and challenger, accused the incumbent of prioritizing party-line votes over county needs and said he would focus on Rockingham County priorities and availability to constituents. “My concern is not with his record... My concern is... the priorities. I believe that we need representatives who care more about Rockingham County than they do Raleigh,” Woodall said.
Both candidates highlighted education and economic development. Pirtle pointed to successes bringing investment and increasing teacher starting pay; Woodall stressed supporting small businesses, trades and infrastructure targeted to local needs. Each pledged to support the eventual Republican nominee in the general election.
The forum provided voters direct statements of record and priorities but did not include endorsements or formal actions.
