At its June 9 meeting the Rice Lake Area School District board approved an updated athletic code of conduct (second reading) and formally adopted 2025–26 teacher contracts, while tabling one policy for further work and accepting a first reading of the Rice Lake Middle School handbook.
Athletics policy: the athletic code — which incorporates language derived from WIAA eligibility rules — received a second reading and was adopted after brief discussion about wording, including guidance on name/image/likeness (NIL) language. The board approved the item by voice vote.
Handbook: Laurie Leaf, assistant principal and athletic director at the middle school, presented the first reading of the middle-school student handbook and described modest updates (policy link updates, immunization grade adjustments, added clubs and eSports, refinements to the dress code and retake requirements). Leaf said vaping and electronic/cyber incidents are addressed under existing rules but offered to add clearer language; the handbook will return for a second reading with edits.
Contracts and policies: the board approved teacher contracts for the 2025–26 school year and accepted the administration’s plan to use an electronic process for contract signatures. The board held second readings of multiple policies and approved most; policy 344.43 was tabled for additional work.
