Rice Lake board approves new high-school courses, asks for AP passing-rate data

The Rice Lake Area School District board voted Monday to add three courses to its high-school curriculum: Holocaust Studies, Modern History (including 9/11) and a new physical-education course, Fit for Life 2. The board approved the additions for placement into the permanent rotation after the three-year review period.
The curriculum committee presented survey results and positive student feedback for the history courses and described AP Psychology and AP World course developments. A committee representative said one AP World offering this year had been delivered as a dual-credit course while a staff member was on leave and that AP Psychology also ran as dual-credit under a college professor this year rather than as a test-taking AP section.
Board members asked for clarification about AP Psychology test participation and pass rates. Committee staff said no AP exam results were yet available for the college-taught sections and that the district would obtain pass-rate information and report back.
The motion to add the three courses was made, seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
What’s next: staff will provide AP exam participation and pass-rate numbers when available and review the new courses across the three-year trial period before final placement in the rotation.
