Centricom seeks council OK to run free summer Wi‑Fi and movie nights in Gunnison parks

Centricom said it has run similar programs in other communities and estimated attendance ‘‘up to 200’’ spectators at its larger events. Jensen described technical controls and content filtering as managed on the company’s platform and said the service can be set to ‘‘school zone’’ or otherwise restricted as needed. Council members asked about security and crowd control; Chief Adams said on‑duty officers could provide a presence and the department supported the idea.
Council did not treat the Centricom visit as a formal agenda vote during the presentation; members asked staff to coordinate scheduling and logistics with the company and to confirm dates that do not conflict with other town events. Jensen said Centricom will coordinate with the city calendar and provide a sample of previous setups so staff can plan police or public‑works support if needed.
The next step is coordination between Centricom and city staff on event dates and operational details, including any required permits or insurance the city may require for a park event.
