WALSENBURG — A county resident used the public-comment period at the Huerfano County Board of Commissioners meeting on Feb. 3 to inform officials about a recent fatal hit-and-run in Walsenburg.
"There was a horrific accident in Walsenburg on Sunday night where a pedestrian was hit and run by a car ... That individual is Noe Gallegos," said Ryan Giese, who identified himself as a county citizen and contractor. Giese told the board Gallegos "worked within the courthouse and the Kansas building and the jail" and that "he's been very helpful to many, many families in this town of Walsenburg, Huerfano County, and just a sad loss for his family and for many of the people here in Walsenburg."
Giese asked that the board be made aware of the death; no further discussion or formal action related to the crash was recorded in the meeting transcript. The county clerk or sheriff's office would be the appropriate sources for updates on any investigation or memorial arrangements; the transcript records only the public comment.
The board acknowledged Giese's remarks with brief thanks. No county official provided additional details about the incident during the meeting.
