Northampton City subcommittee elects Councilor Perry chair, Councilor Nabad vice chair

Councilor Garrick Perry was elected chair of the Northampton City Community Resources Subcommittee on Jan. 26 by acclamation, and Councilor Nabad was elected vice chair, the group confirmed by roll call.

Perry, who said the committee "speaks to why I ran for office," told members he was "humbled" by the nomination and outlined his desire to continue bringing community experts and residents into the committee's work. Members who supported the nomination cited Perry's experience on the committee and his engagement with housing and social issues.

The panel also approved minutes from prior meetings after a motion and second; Laura, the committee clerk, conducted a roll call and all four members present voted yes. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that passed unanimously.

Why it matters: The committee — whose jurisdiction covers local business, tourism, the environment, arts, planning, zoning, sustainability, land use, housing and affordability — sets agendas and invitations that guide which local agencies and community groups appear for briefings. With Perry as chair and Nabad as vice chair, members said they plan to build a predictable schedule of roundtables and presentations to give new councilors an operational framework.

What’s next: Perry said he and Vice Chair Nabad will coordinate with Laura to circulate potential meeting dates when regular meetings fall on holidays, and to begin outreach to groups identified during the session for future briefings.
