Beaver County officials: no state snow-removal funds released; municipalities asking about emergency declarations

Speaker 4 told commissioners that, based on discussions with Director Brewer, the state had not released any funds to assist with the recent snow removal as of the meeting. "At this point, there's not been any funding released from the state for the purposes of assisting with the snow removal that occurred over the last week," Speaker 4 said.
Speaker 4 explained the county would need to declare a state of emergency only if funds became available, if it needed to hire private contractors to assist, or if it needed to make emergency purchases such as salt or materials. Several municipalities had declared emergencies because they used outside agencies for snow removal, Speaker 4 said; other municipalities and school districts must declare on their own if they seek assistance.
A county resident (Becky, Speaker 5) asked whether a county can retroactively declare an emergency after a snowstorm; Speaker 4 confirmed that retroactive declarations are possible.
What’s next: Staff will continue advising municipalities on options; no state funds had been released at the time of the meeting, and the board did not direct any immediate purchases or hiring in the public record.
