KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — The Kernersville Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Feb. 3 to permit parking fees at a planned spring festival (branded kville155/America 250) to offset municipal event expenses.
Ashley Sinclair of Parks & Recreation told the board the event budget is projected at roughly $70,000 and includes headline and supporting artists, staging, fireworks and a drone show. Staff reported $3,100 in confirmed sponsorships to date and recommended parking fees as a reliable local revenue source; past local events showed parking revenues can materially reduce town subsidies.
After discussion about tiering and clarity for attendees, aldermen simplified the structure: $10 per family/regular vehicle and $20 per bus or oversized commercial vehicle. The motion to approve the parking fee approach was made by Mayor Pro Tem Gorham and seconded by Alderman Apple and passed unanimously.
Staff said marketing materials and the event website (kvl155.com displayed on promotional banners) will clearly explain parking categories. Parks and Recreation will continue outreach to sponsors and vendors and return to the board with operational details as needed.
