KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — The Kernersville Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a rezoning for a parcel east of the intersection of Edgewood Street and NC 66 South to Highway Business during its Feb. 3 meeting.
Staff noted the property had split zoning (RS‑12 and Highway Business) and is largely behind the Route 66 Diner; the owner requested consolidation to Highway Business to allow commercial uses consistent with the town's small‑area plans and the NC 66 / US 421 corridor vision. Planning staff recommended approval and said the rezoning conforms with dimensional and access standards in the Unified Development Ordinance and the town's land‑use plan.
No members of the public spoke for or against the request during the public hearing. An alderman moved to adopt the staff recommendation and the board voted unanimously in favor.
The approval will allow the owner to proceed with development proposals that conform to Highway Business standards; staff reminded the owner that a commercial driveway permit from the North Carolina Department of Transportation will be required for future civil review.
