The Atoka City Council opened its morning session with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer, then unanimously approved a three-item consent agenda and moved several business items forward, the council said.
Council took no public comment before approving the consent agenda, which included approval of minutes, the city manager’s report (moved to the business agenda) and blanket purchase orders for February. A motion and second to approve the consent agenda carried on a roll call that recorded affirmative votes from Mister Sheryl, Miss Pope, Miss McGee, Mister McDaniel and Mister Cathy.
During the city manager’s report period, Speaker 6 discussed recent winter/ice conditions and several council members and attendees praised city crews, police and emergency management for extended efforts clearing roads and assisting stranded motorists. "I just wanted to thank all the city workers and everybody else that was out," a meeting speaker said, adding appreciation for crews who worked into the night.
Council members noted the difficulty of repeated ice events and the strain on crews who returned to clear streets after fresh icing. No formal policy changes were proposed during the comments; the remarks were recorded as expressions of thanks and recognition of staff efforts.
The council completed its morning business items with routine motions and an adjournment vote. The session recessed for the morning and transferred to related authority meetings for additional agenda items.
