Kevin Josephate, vice president of distribution operations at Electricities (Speaker 16), presented an overview of Electricities' role, the Huntersville service territory and capital projects to support rapid development.
Josephate said the town's service territory is concentrated east of I‑77 with pockets west (Rosedale). The presentation listed numerous capital projects in fiscal 2026–27 to serve new subdivisions and commercial load; several temporary delivery points established to serve fast‑growing areas (e.g., near Publix/North Creek) will be replaced by permanent feeders once the new substation and feeder construction are complete.
On capacity, staff said previous load transfers kept Delivery 1 from overloading in 2025 (peak recorded at roughly 89% of contract capacity) and that the new substation next to the CVS site will provide additional contingency and margin. Josephate said easement acquisition and Duke Energy transmission tap remain to be completed and that construction of above‑ground equipment is well underway; he said target completion is June 2026.
Questions from board members covered preferences for underground lines and how distribution ties and switching would operate during outages. Josephate said undergrounding is preferred for new work but costly to convert existing overhead to underground, and that with the new substation the town will have more options to switch feeders in the field.
