The Jones County Board of Assessors cleared routine business on Feb. 5, approving minutes, a 2026 meeting schedule and several sets of exemptions and appeals while also tabling five CUVA parcels pending additional soils and acreage information.
Key actions taken: the board approved the Jan. 8 meeting minutes and the published 2026 meeting schedule. Staff recommended approval of 77 homestead applications plus four veterans’ homestead E&R applications; the board approved those recommendations. The board also approved 56 E&Rs and Notices of Determination processed for appeals, and it approved 28 motor vehicle appeals reported as completed.
On CUVA filings, staff reported 43 applications received; five combined parcels are awaiting a soils and land-coverage acreage report and were tabled until March, and the board approved the remaining 38 CUVA exemptions.
Staff additionally updated the board on ongoing administrative items: mobile-home appeal deadlines (03/16/2026), FLPA application processing (the FLPA window opened Jan. 5 and 43 applications were processed with 38 to be entered), boat-return mailings completed Jan. 22, and business personal property account updates based on a 404-account list from Jones County Planning and Zoning (62 new accounts added, 168 pending entry, 92 requiring further research). Staff said of 488 total appeals, 487 have been resolved and one remains open and expected to be resolved by Feb. 15 if no additional hearings are required.
Finally, the meeting moved into a brief executive session after announcing public comments; the board approved a motion to enter executive session for five minutes. No public comment speakers were recorded in the meeting transcript.
