Central Consolidated honors retiring board member Marion Wells; students perform holiday songs

The Central Consolidated School District board recognized Vice President Marion Wells for his service to the district during Thursday's meeting in Shiprock.
Board members and community speakers presented a plaque and thanked Wells for four years of board service and nearly 19 years in district maintenance work. Colleagues praised his advocacy and community ties; Wells thanked the board and community in turn.
Earlier in the meeting students from Judy Nelson Elementary and other area schools led the pledge in English, Navajo and Spanish and offered musical performances that included short holiday pieces and a band set. Teachers and presenters described the bilingual classroom program and said the performances reflected several months of practice.
No board action was required for the recognition; the items were ceremonial and intended to highlight community engagement and student learning.
