District leaders told the Central Consolidated School District board that the Family Resource Center has moved from a soft opening to active community service, including a winter event that provided jackets, beanies, food and books to families.
A district presenter said staff served "close to 80 students" at a distribution event and that more than 150 people visited the center during the day. The district described the center as a coordination point for 5 staff members offering wraparound services and connections to community resources.
During the presentation the district announced it had "received another Kellogg grant in the amount of $600,000." The presenter said the award will fund a three‑year cultural literacy center and lending library at the Family Resource Center and will include a fully grant‑funded position to operate the program.
Board members thanked staff and community partners who provided contributions to the winter event. The district said it is working with local organizations and plans to open the cultural literacy center and lending library in the next couple of months, resources and partner availability permitting.
No formal board vote was required for the announcement item; the district said next steps include finalizing the grant paperwork, staffing the funded position and setting a public opening date for the cultural literacy center.
