City outlines Feb. 17 open house and April 7 workshop for Land Development Code update Phase 2

Planning staff updated the board on Phase 2 of the Land Development Code rewrite and encouraged board members and the public to attend two upcoming events: an informal open house on Tuesday, Feb. 17 (Hagler Mason Conference Room, 3–6 p.m.) and a planning‑board workshop on Tuesday, Apr. 7 (2 p.m., same room).

Staff (identified in the record as Miss Cannon) said the Feb. 17 open house will be an informal drop‑in session with staff and the consulting team available to answer questions; it will present recommended actions and show how public comments from prior workshops were addressed. The April 7 session will be a formal, quorum‑based planning‑board workshop to discuss the draft code and determine what moves forward for adoption versus what is held for a later phase.

Staff explained the matrix that will accompany the materials: it will list the lead staff agency (for example, Public Works, Engineering, Development Services or Planning), the Inspire Placemaking Collective team's recommendation, and the proposed action (proceed to update the LDC now or hold for a future phase). If an item is recommended to proceed, the proposed edits will be shown with editing mark‑up; items held for later phases will be omitted from the proposed update.

Staff said they are still finalizing the materials and will provide clean and redline PDFs to board members ahead of the events and offered to guide members to sections of particular interest (stormwater, landscaping, housing items). The update will proceed to additional public workshops and eventual adoption steps after board review.

Staff and board members discussed logistics for reviewing the matrix and confirmed both events will be publicly noticed and posted on the city's website and social channels.
