The DeKalb County Drainage Board convened Feb. 5 and approved routine business and several formal actions.
The board approved the Jan. 15, 2026 meeting minutes after an on-the-record motion and second. The vote was recorded verbally and the motion carried.
The board then approved attorney claims for February totaling $1,295.00. A motion and second were recorded and the board voted in favor.
On a separate agenda item the board approved a minor subdivision, described by the applicant as "Brandenburg Estates," at 3975 State Road 8 in Auburn (Union Township, Parcel 14-06-34-20-005). Property owner John Brandenbooger spoke in support of the plat and described planned agricultural uses including hay storage, a cattle barn (to be approved separately with an ILP and drainage plate) and potential future homestead development. The surveyor/staff confirmed the plat covers approximately 47.3 acres and noted the barn will require a separate improvement location permit and drainage review. A motion to approve the minor subdivision was made, seconded and approved.
The board also approved the certificate of assessments for annual maintenance for 2026. Surveyor/staff reported 224 drains were flagged for collection this year and described the board's chosen collection threshold and process. Staff said the certification will be forwarded to the treasurer and auditors for billing.
