Kenilworth reorganizes: council president sworn in; appointments, consent agenda approved

Kenilworth — At its Jan. 6 reorganization meeting, the Kenilworth Borough Council completed its annual organizational business, swore in newly elected officials and approved several appointments and routine resolutions.
William Morrow, elected to a three-year council term, was nominated and approved as council president (Resolution 26-1) earlier in the meeting. Later Senator John Bramnick administered the oath of office to Morrow.
The council also approved Resolution 26-2 appointing the law firm Semerrero and Forney LLC as borough attorney, and announced several planning-board appointments, including Michael Scuderi (Class 2, term to Dec. 31, 2026), Rich Bicerno (Class 4, term to Dec. 31, 2029), and Matt Frank Mazzeo (Class 4, term to Dec. 31, 2029). Alternate appointments included Luis D'Mondo, Tony Pugliese and Daniel Concoli with terms to Dec. 31, 2027.
The bulk of the consent agenda (Resolutions 26-3 through 26-48, excluding the pulled 26-4) passed on a roll call vote.
During the public-comment period, resident Maria Ovett raised safety and accessibility concerns about recent striping at the senior center, saying walkers and wheelchairs could no longer access the doorway and that handicap spaces had been shifted. Borough staff acknowledged the striping did not follow the plans submitted by the contractor and said the contractor would be asked to correct the work, weather permitting.
Paulette Jorgen, representing the Kenilworth Revolution 250 committee, requested council support for upcoming fundraisers and provided dates and ticket information for gala events intended to celebrate the borough's anniversary.
Mayor Horowitz opened the meeting with a New Year's message praising volunteers and urging collaborative leadership. The meeting concluded after a benediction and an adjournment motion.
