Lewis County Legislature audits $2.79 million in claims, approves several infrastructure and grant actions

At its Feb. 5 meeting the Lewis County Legislature approved auditing $2,787,028.21 in claims, carried a package of consent resolutions and authorized applications and agreements for transportation, flood-repair reimbursements and a feasibility study for a Moose River bridge.
The Lewis County Legislature on Feb. 5 voted to audit and allow claims totaling $2,787,028.21 and approved a slate of resolutions to pursue infrastructure grants and intermunicipal reimbursements.
At the top of the agenda the Finance and Rules Committee reported the claims and recommended they be audited and allowed. The claims report prompted a question about a $21,000 mechanical service contract and whether costs should be split; staff said the contract predated a property swap and the board agreed to follow up.
Tom Osborne moved the resolution to audit and allow the claims; Herb seconded. Legislator Mosher recused himself from the vote due to payments to himself appearing in the claims. A roll call recorded multiple yes votes and the measure carried.
The meeting also included consent resolutions that were approved as a packet. The board later approved separate measures to pursue Transportation Alternatives Program grants, amend an intermunicipal agreement with the Town of New Bremen to allow engineering and repair invoicing for 2024 flood work, continue the façade and streetscape improvement program using rollover and ARPA funds, and to submit a late grant application for a feasibility study and potential construction funding for a Moose River Road bridge replacement.
The board heard a public comment/presentation from Arlene Hall of the Lewis County Historical Society about the organization’s volunteer-produced annual journal, and received committee reports covering snowmobile trail conditions, social services updates (including the county warming center), flood-recovery assistance, and senior exemption workshops.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that carried.
