Water trust ratifies grant for North Canadian wastewater plant improvements

The Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust on Oct. 21 ratified a resolution approving the general manager's acceptance of a community grant earmarked by Senator Imhoff to support improvements at the North Canadian wastewater treatment plant.
General Manager Josh told trustees the grant was offered to the trust by Senator Imhoff and that they did not actively seek it. "He brought it to us," Josh said, adding that "we've actually the money is already in the bank" and that the trust only needed formal approval to accept the funds.
Josh described the broader program as a roughly $54,000,000 improvement project that includes pipe replacements, variable-frequency-drive upgrades and pump improvements. He said the construction contract was awarded in 2022, the work has been underway for several years and it is approaching completion. Trustees asked no substantive questions; a motion to approve the resolution was made and passed.
The resolution does not specify the exact grant amount. Trustees recorded formal acceptance of the funds so staff can proceed with the ongoing construction and accounting.
