City outlines timeline for Brougham Dam rehabilitation and riverfront maintenance

Joe Shumway, representing Oklahoma City Public Works, told the Riverfront Redevelopment Authority that the Brougham Dam rehabilitation will require drawing down sections of the river and is expected to take place from mid-December through February.
Shumway said crews completed most hinge repairs to the Brum Dam lock and were conducting initial testing intended to allow Embark to resume using the lock. He added that cylinder replacements are about 50% complete and that the newer rehab cylinders will be installed on the remaining half of the dam to keep it operational for approximately five years.
"Timeline for this will be mid December through the February," Shumway said. He also reported that river crews removed about "a 160 cubic yards of debris" in September as part of routine maintenance.
Shumway noted the pedestrian-bridge lighting work will now be overseen by Public Works and that other annual projects (spring vegetation management and cylinder rehabs) remain on the schedule. Trustees asked no substantive follow-up questions at the time; these projects were reported as part of the consent docket and no separate action was required.
Next steps: staff will continue construction and testing work and return with status updates as projects progress.
