Board approves additional quantities and a $712,470 increase for MAPS sidewalks project; contractor requests 21 extra days

The MAPS 4 Citizens Advisory Board on Feb. 5 approved a field-driven amendment and a change order for the MAPS sidewalks connectivity project, which adds alignments and spot repairs across three pedestrian-priority areas in southwest Oklahoma City.
Brandon Everhart of SRB presented a photo-rich update and itemized the field changes that prompted the request: a partial deletion of north-side sidewalk on Southwest 51st Street shifted work to new alignments, additional curb-and-gutter (3,800 linear feet) for spot repairs, 3,500 linear feet of integral curb to mitigate property impacts, 3,500 square yards of driveway paving for commercial driveways and parking lots not included in the original bid, 380 feet of handrail to ensure pedestrian safety on steep grades, valve/meter/sign adjustments and 1,100 cubic yards of aggregate base for added paving quantities. Everhart also described 55 water meter box replacements and requested an additional 21 days to the schedule for weather-related delays.
Everhart said the adjusted contract amount with Amendment No. 1 and Change Order No. 6 came to just over $3 million and that the work remains within available budget. A staff member reiterated that added quantities reflected more sidewalk being built overall and framed the amendment as continuing to deliver sidewalks while funds remain.
Board members asked for one neighborhood allocation and then moved and approved the amendments and change order on a voice vote. Staff said final inspections and project closeout are imminent in several alignments and that the contractor would be off site in the coming weeks.
