The Defiance City Council was told Feb. 3 that repair work is likely next week on a sewer line on North Clint Street after water pollution control staff found unsealed laterals from previously demolished houses.
Councilmember Mack said the improperly plugged house laterals have weakened the structural support around a sewer line and that the city wants to repair the site as soon as possible to prevent further deterioration. He warned that the work will likely require closing one southbound lane between Tim Hortons and the train overpass for a few days while crews complete repairs.
Mack said staff did not have an exact start date but would post updates on the city website and planned to use digital signage to notify drivers. He urged patience while the city solicits quotes and prepares for the repair work.
The council did not take a formal vote on this informational report; staff said they were still obtaining quotes and would provide scheduling information when available.
