City officials described the storm as an unusually sustained cold event that reduced the effectiveness of road salt and caused extended ice conditions. The mayor and staff explained that the declaration is being ratified now to position the city to pursue cost recovery and reimbursements for eligible expenses. A staff member said the local threshold for recovery funds was ‘‘a little over $600,000’’ locally between the city and county.
Commissioners asked a few clarifying questions; the ratification was approved by unanimous roll call (Hill, Perrigan, Bailey, Beasley Brown and Alcott voting yes).
Next steps: ratification enables staff to coordinate with Warren County Emergency Management and the state so the county can submit required documentation for state-level assistance or reimbursement.
