Bowling Green commission approves purchase of 903 College St. for downtown redevelopment

The Bowling Green City Commission voted to add Municipal Order 2026-27 to the agenda and then approved the purchase of the property at 903 College Street, described by staff as the old BB&T building that has sat vacant for years.
City staff said the property is a downtown redevelopment opportunity and a ‘‘cornerstone of Fountain Square Park’’ that the city could bring up to a minimum code standard and later convey through a request for proposals to a private developer. Staff thanked the property owners (named in the municipal order) for cooperating on the transaction.
During discussion staff compared the effort to previous downtown revitalization work and noted the goal is to return the building to active use. The commission approved the purchase by roll call (Hill, Perrigan, Bailey, Beasley Brown and Alcott voting yes).
Next steps: staff will execute the agreement, deed and other necessary documents as authorized and prepare any required code compliance work and a subsequent RFP for redevelopment.
