Bowling Green adopts 2026 parks and recreation master plan after broad public input

The Bowling Green City Commission voted unanimously to adopt the 2026 Parks and Recreation master plan as prepared by consultant MKSK Inc.
City staff and the consultant told commissioners the plan reflects extensive public engagement, including the BG2050 process. Commissioners and staff highlighted the riverfront as a top community priority and said the plan provides a strategic framework for future investments and design work.
Staff said the plan will be made available online ‘‘immediately after approval,’’ and will be maintained on a city-hosted website for ongoing updates as recommendations are implemented. The consultant and staff also described updates to recommendation matrices, walk-shed mapping and proximity analyses for parks, schools, churches and nonprofit facilities.
Commissioners praised the visual presentation and community input that informed the plan; no dissent was recorded. The commission approved the plan by roll call vote (Hill, Perrigan, Bailey, Beasley Brown and Alcott voting yes).
Next steps: the plan's draft becomes official and staff will begin posting the plan materials and updates to the city's website.
