The Lake Stevens City Council voted Sept. 24 to approve a renewal of the city’s five‑year contract with Axon to continue provision and upgrade of body‑worn camera systems and conducted energy devices (Tasers).
Chief Pizzizzo told council the replacement will move the department to the newest Taser 10 devices and maintain the city’s body‑worn camera services. He said the invoice for the upgrade arrived during the 2025 budget process and that signing the contract now would save the city about $20,000 and allow for the 6–8 month lead time required for delivery. “It takes about 6 to 8 months to get the tasers in, so we want to get the contract signed so we can move forward and get the equipment,” the chief said.
A council member praised the chief and staff for recruitment and fiscal management and read comparative crime rate figures for context, noting Lake Stevens remains among the safer communities in the state per the figures presented to council. No ordinance or long-term financing change was tied to the vote; council moved, seconded and approved the contract in open session.
The contract renewal is recorded as a routine procurement action; the council placed the renewal into the city’s base 2025 budget planning and directed staff to proceed with contract execution so equipment orders can be placed.
What happens next: staff will finalize the contract with Axon and schedule delivery and deployment of the upgraded equipment per the vendor lead times.
