Resident urges clearer budget data and flags creek erosion exposing sewer line

Stanley Sakifio (3170 Brook Hollow Drive) addressed the council during public comment and said the city’s budget presentation lacked explanation of the data, methods and assumptions used to produce projections and strategic objectives.
"What is the basis for the data? How was it gathered? How was it analyzed? I didn't hear anything about that," Sakifio said, asking the council to explain the underlying data for the budget and for any stated strategic objectives.
Sakifio also raised an infrastructure safety concern: he said the creek behind his neighborhood has deepened to the point that a sewage line is becoming exposed and recommended the city treat it as a capital-expenditure priority to prevent a future sewer failure and neighborhood contamination. "If the line busts, we are done. The sewage will spill over," he said.
Council acknowledged the comment and continued with the consent-agenda review. No formal council action on Sakifio’s concerns was recorded during the study session; staff follow-up was not specified on the record during the session.
