Buffetown awarded $166,650 energy grant for Cooperative/Cultural Center

At the April 15 Buffetown Council work session, a town staff member announced that the town’s request for an Energy and Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) for the Cooperative/Cultural Center had been fully funded. The staff member said the town originally requested $166,650 and "they have actually given us the entire amount we requested." Council members and the town manager responded with thanks and began discussing how to record the award in the special-revenue account.
Erin Nelson said the grant will fund lighting, insulation and some HVAC work and that she would move the CCC-related items into the special-revenue tab while coordinating with department leads for timing of spending. The town also discussed a related $27,000 electrical grant line in the budget and next steps for planning and matching funds. Nelson said she would confirm precise timing and reimbursement rules after meeting with department staff and the accountant.
The announcement followed other budget items reviewed during the session; council members asked whether some grants would be county-driven instead of town-driven and sought clarity about match requirements and eligible expenses. No formal action was taken to appropriate the EECBG funds during the work session; Nelson said the grant and associated budget entries would be carried forward into subsequent budget documents.
