Erin Nelson reported that building department employees asked to reallocate an $18,000 annual compensation pool because the building permit technician has taken on a larger share of administrative work. The town previously allocated $12,000 to the technician and $6,000 to the building official; staff proposed equalizing the allocations to $9,000 each.
Nelson said both employees had agreed and that the change would be evaluated as part of the normal performance period. She recommended implementing the split from this point forward and noted the town had already applied the split in the most recent payroll cycle; the council then voted to retroactively modify the employment contracts to reflect even pay allocation and apply the adjustment to the last pay cycle.
Council members asked to re-evaluate the arrangement in a few months (four months was suggested) and requested that staff continue to monitor permit volumes and administrative workloads before making further permanent changes.
The motion to retroactively modify the building-department employment allocations carried by unanimous voice vote.
