Brazosport ISD trustees approved a resolution to cast the district's 375 votes for Gail Robinson in the upcoming Brazoria County Appraisal District director election following a recommendation from the district finance office.
The district's chief financial officer, identified in the meeting as Ms. Cancino, told trustees that state law and district policy guide how each taxing unit casts votes and that Brazosport ISD is entitled to 375 votes. "It is recommended that the board of trustees cast the district 375 votes for K. O. Robinson," the CFO said during her presentation, citing board policy CCH and changes from Senate Bill 2 that affect appraisal-district procedures.
The recommendation prompted no public comment. A trustee moved to cast the votes and the motion was seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote. After the vote, the presiding officer said, "She gets our vote again."
Why it matters: votes by taxing entities determine membership on the Brazoria County Appraisal District board of directors, which oversees property appraisal and can affect local tax administration. The district followed the process described in its policy and the CFO noted the chief appraiser has prepared an official ballot listing nominees and confirmed the districts vote allotment.
The action was recorded as approved by the trustees; the meeting proceeded to other agenda items.
