Roanoke County names new IT director; board approves appointments and consent agenda

Roanoke County supervisors used part of their Feb. 27 meeting to introduce Omar Marcus as the county’s new director of information technology and to approve routine administrative business.
County administrator Richard Kaye Wood introduced Marcus, citing her experience managing Virginia Smart Community test bed work in Stafford County and prior assistant-director responsibilities in Loudoun County. Marcus told the board she was honored to serve and said she had already met a "dedicated, passionate, talented team" in the IT department.
Following the introduction, the board moved through routine business. The board approved the list of appointments shown in the board report on a roll call vote with all present members voting in favor. The consent agenda — described as routine matters to be enacted in one resolution unless removed for discussion — was also adopted by a unanimous roll call. The clerk then announced motions to receive and file the reports included under item H; that motion carried by roll call.
The board announced work sessions to review fiscal-year 2024–25 employee compensation and benefits (with Finance Director Laurie Gearhart and Budget Administrator Steve Elliott) and a subsequent work session to review the county administrator’s proposed 2025–2034 capital improvement program; the board recessed to the third floor for those work sessions and planned to reconvene at 7 p.m.
