The Mesquite Independent School District board voted to offer a one-time $250 incentive to employees who submit early retirement notices, aiming to give district leaders more time to plan staffing for the 2026–27 school year.
District administration told the board the incentive would be paid on the employee’s final June 2026 paycheck after staff verify eligibility and documentation. "The incentive amount that we're requesting is $250, a one-time payment, and it would be paid on the employee's final June 2026 paycheck," said district administration during the presentation. The deadline to submit a retirement resignation via Frontline and upload the required signed document is 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026.
Administration said eligibility is limited to employees on probationary or continuing contracts with valid certification or credentials, employees planning to retire at the end of the 2025–26 school year who notified after July 1, 2025, and employees who previously submitted retirement notice after July 1, 2025, for retirement effective on their last duty day of 2025–26. Administration clarified the payment is conditioned on a voluntary, unconditional resignation effective on the employee’s last duty day of the 2025–26 school year.
Trustee Miss Hornby moved to approve the incentive; Trustee Mister Rose seconded the motion. The board voted in favor and the motion carried.
The board did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript; the motion was announced carried by the presiding officer. The district said it will verify eligibility and pay the incentive on the June 2026 payroll prior to disbursing funds.
