The Linden superintendent told the board on Dec. 15 that the district has 6,479 students enrolled as of that day and is actively recruiting to fill 14 teaching positions and 10 non‑certificated support roles.
The superintendent said districtwide staff-absence patterns have been notable: “44% of staff have been absent,” and 55% of those absences required a substitute, according to his report. He highlighted McManus Middle School as an outlier on uniform compliance, reporting daily exemption counts that average more than 20 students on some days and described the need for “targeted building level support and accountability measures” at that school.
The report summarized uniform-compliance rates by level: elementary schools collectively at about 99% compliance, middle schools around 85% overall (with McManus driving lower rates), and high school compliance near 97%. The superintendent said the district will work with building administration to address compliance and staffing concerns before the winter break.
The superintendent also announced a planned retirement: James Warner, a district employee since 2001 who later served as a school nurse, will retire in March 2026 after 25 years of service.
Board members thanked staff and asked for follow-up data; the superintendent said he would provide more statistics on parent portal engagement and other metrics at a future meeting.
