Local therapist urges Hinsdale to address recurring Elm Street flooding that disrupts client care

HINSDALE — Susie Thorpe, a Hinsdale resident and owner of Seasons Therapy Group, told the Village Board on Feb. 3 that severe recurring flooding on Elm Street — in front of Lane School and extending north to Ogden — has trapped staff and clients multiple times and forced session cancellations.
Thorpe said the clinic building has been flooded four times since her ownership and described situations where families had to carry children across blocked streets. "Over the last 2 years since we've owned the building, 4 times severe flooding has trapped us and our clients inside this building," Thorpe said, and she offered to share photographs she has taken of the events.
President Hart asked staff member George to follow up with Thorpe after the meeting to review possible options and confirm whether the area is covered by recent drainage studies. Staff said they would check and update Thorpe on next steps.
Thorpe also raised concerns about recent local parent‑group activity around school and library policies and urged leaders to protect vulnerable youth. The matter of Elm Street flooding drew a direct follow‑up commitment from staff to investigate and report back to the resident.
