San Angelo Fire Department earns Texas Fire Chiefs Association best-practices designation

The San Angelo City Council on Feb. 3 recognized the San Angelo Fire Department after the department received a best‑practices designation from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association.
Scott Collard of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association said the program is a 12‑chapter, 114‑subcategory evaluation designed to validate a department's operations and encourage continuous improvement across leadership, training, risk management and long‑term planning. "This program provides a pathway for a fire department to push its level of service to a status of excellence that is then validated by independent experts," Collard said during the meeting.
A chief speaking for the department accepted the designation on behalf of staff, noting the department's ISO 1 rating and saying the recognition "confirms that San Angelo Fire Department is not only operationally elite on the emergency scene, but also professionally and physically sound in how we serve our city." The chief thanked council and city leadership for support of training, equipment and staffing.
City leaders congratulated department staff for the designation and noted that the recognition is intended as an independent verification of performance rather than an internal award. No formal council action was required beyond the recognition.
